USA – Mr. Bungle.

Atualizado: 29 de jul. de 2020

Amid protests, band covers “USA” from The Exploited.

The band released their first song since 1999, the cover of “USA”, a politically charged hymn composed by the legendary British punk band The Exploited, could not be more fitting for these the current situation of that country.

Mike Patton joined original members Trevor Dunn (bass) and Trey Spruance (guitar) accompanied by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo for a series of shows in February this year. The shows focused on the group's hardcore roots, playing songs from the 1986 demo, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, along with several cover songs.

In March, this new line-up entered the studio to re-record the demo songs and some of the covers played on the tour. Apparently USA is the first release to come from these recordings.

Regarding the reason for releasing this song, Trey Spruance says: " Doesn’t matter what part of the political spectrum you are on, everyone at some point has said ‘Fuck the USA.'(…) The closest thing we have to a universal sentiment” .

Greg Werckman (who along with Mike Patton are co-founders of Ipecac Records) explained: " This is a song that resonates and speaks to the country that Ipecac calls home”.

He added: “Over 100,000 US citizens are dead from the pandemic. At the same time protective masks have turned into a political football and no one has a grasp on testing. Racism continues to rear its ugly head. Police brutality spikes, unemployment spikes, depression spikes and ‘our’ ego driven elected officials don’t seem to care. We need to do a better job of looking out for each other. MusiCares takes care of all of us in the music community. "

Patton's Ipecac Recordings is donating all track revenue to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. The single, in addition to the digital download option, is available in a box accompanied by a limited edition t-shirt at Mr. Bungle's online store.
